As the world's only film festival of its kind, SUBURBINALE places the suburbs at the center of its attention. Taking place for the 5th time from November 4th to 9th, 2025, in Groß-Enzersdorf, Lower Austria, it presents cinematic perspectives on the "suburbs" in the broadest sense. Thus, SUBURBINALE focuses on urban fringe areas experiencing the most significant population growth and the fundamental changes associated with it. The changes observed here exist in similar forms in many suburban areas worldwide. In most cases, they receive considerably less attention than the inner-city areas. SUBURBINALE focuses its gaze on the suburbs, both from within and from the outside, and incorporates their realities into its festival concept.
Directors: SUBURBINALE. Georg Vogt • Moritz Jahoda
The work "View behind the curtain" is a segment of Ashes of Eden project created by dancer Jana Schmück and visual artist Johannes C. Gerard. The scenery is set in a suburbia area in the Eastern part of Germany. A typical suburb location for the region. A mix of progress, moving on, stand still, scattered dreams. Even after more 35 years of the unification of Germany.
